RSS news feeds and Microblogs for ESP

Introduction to RSS news feeds and their use in ESP classrooms.

 

Activity 1 - Please do the following tasks

 

    • Task 1: Create your RSS feeds reader at any of the above mentioned RSS feeds readers or aggregators. (Recommended RSS feeds aggreators are Bloglines,and Google Reader).
    • Task 2: Subscribe to the RSS feeds of our Yahoo Group, Blog, and then add them to your RSS feeds reader
    • Task 3: Subscribe to the RSS feeds of your own Blog, (make sure your RSS feeds is enabled on your blog). 
    • Task 4: Please go to our feeds channels wiki page to subbscribe to all URLs of RSS feeds mentioned in Task 2
    • Task 5: When you are finished with the above tasks, please go to your blog to post an entry about what you learned

 

Introduction to Twitter, the micro-blogging tool - Do I really need this tool for my ESP classroom?

  • Using Twitter, the micro-blogging tool for quick networking and immediate learning. How?

 

Activity 2 - Please do the following tasks

 

    • Task 1: Join Twitter and then follow the Web 2.0 for ESP08 twitter
    • Task 2: Post your first twit to Web 2.0 for ESP08 twitter to tell us what you are doing? 
    • Task 3: Subscribe to the RSS feeds of our session's Twitter - (the URL of the RSS feeds of our session's Twitter is also available on the feeds channels wiki page).
    • Task 4: Create your ESP Class Twitter, and then add a link to Twitter update to your ESP class Blog
    • Note:
      1. This EVO 08 session's Twiiter at Web 2.0 for ESP08 twitter will be only following participants who choose to follow it!
      2. You could useTwitter through Mobile Phones / IM, (these are other options to where you'd like to receive your tweets. These options are offered on your Twitter Setting.).
